According to the Cabinet note that the Textile Ministry finalized, the second edition of the production-linked incentive (PLI 2.0) scheme for textiles is likely to have an outlay of Rs. 4307 crores and will cover the manufacture of garments, made-ups, and textiles accessories of all materials, natural or man-made.

The first edition of the PLI scheme for textiles was established in 2021 as a part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan (Self-Reliant India Campaign) to boost the country’s textile manufacturing sector and make it globally competitive. The first edition of the PLI scheme is restricted to the manufacture of man-made fibre (MMF) fabrics and apparel, as well as technological textiles.

The objective of the proposed PLI 2.0 is to promote India’s manufacturing capability, attract investments in the textile sector, and create high employment with low investment.
