Avient Corporation is delighted to announce that its production site in Taoyuan is among the first providers of dope-dyeing solutions in the world to be a bluesign SYSTEM PARTNER. Avient first highlighted this new certification this past week during ITMA 2023, the world’s largest annual international textile and garment technology exhibition in Milan, Italy, emphasizing its continuous efforts to help customers reduce their environmental impact and focus on a more sustainable future.

Utilized by more than 800 companies worldwide covering brands, textile manufacturers, and chemical suppliers, the bluesign SYSTEM features a holistic approach to responsible and more sustainable textile manufacturing. This approach is based on Input Stream Management, which strives to reduce the environmental impact on people and the planet, promote responsible use of resources, and support a high level of consumer safety. The Input Stream Management confirms that bluesign approved chemical products and raw materials are used in all steps of the manufacturing process.

As a bluesign SYSTEM PARTNER, Avient’s dope-dyeing (also known as spin-dyeing) solution is acknowledged as a more eco-conscious alternative to dye fibers or yarns. Traditional wet or bath-dyeing methods typically use substantial amounts of water and energy to heat a mixture of water and chemicals to dye the yarn. With dope-dyeing, the colorant is in the form of concentrate pellets added to the polymer pellets during the extrusion and melting process. The plastic mass is then shaped into filaments, spun, and texturized into an already-dyed yarn. No water is involved, and no wastewater is created, reducing the number of steps and, as a result, the amount of energy needed to add color.

“The market is changing faster than ever before, with an increasing demand for quality and sustainability from manufacturers within the textile industry. Providing safe and sustainable products that downstream customers want is crucial,” said Say-Eng Lee, vice president, and general manager, Color & Additives Asia. “Joining the bluesign SYSTEM helps Avient improve the sustainability performance of customer products and minimize negative impacts on people and the environment while working with a certified network within the industry.”

Avient’s Taoyuan site supports customers in Greater China, Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia with fiber colorant and additive solutions for apparel, home, and industrial textiles.
