In an era where innovation and sustainability are reshaping the textile landscape, FIBERSE emerges as a game-changing name pushing the boundaries of what fabric can do. To delve deeper into the revolutionary strides being made in functional fibres and smart textiles, Textile South Asia sat down with Satish N Chandra, Chief Operating Officer of Scalene Livprotec Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru. The discussion offers an insightful look into how FIBERSE is redefining performance textiles by integrating advanced silver-based technologies into fabrics used across diverse sectors—from apparel and healthcare to electronics shielding and water purification. With a sharp focus on durability, sustainability, and innovation, Satish Chandra shares the journey, technological breakthroughs, challenges, and future vision that position FIBERSE at the forefront of next-gen textile solutions.
Textile South Asia – Can you explain FIBERSE’s role in the textile industry and what makes your fibres unique?
Satish N Chandra – Our journey began with a simple yet powerful idea: What if fabric could do more? At FIBERSE, we’re on a mission to redefine what “textiles” means — far beyond the clothes on your body. Our metalized silver yarns are the core of multifunctional fabrics that perform in apparel, healthcare, electronics shielding (EMI), water filtration and more. Using our proprietary technology, we bond silver at the molecular level. The result is a fabric/yarn that looks attractive feels comfortable and yet actively neutralizes bacteria and odours, and regulates temperature with zero drop in performance throughout the life of the product. Whether it’s sportswear that keeps athletes fresh, hospital linens that stay hygienic, ESD-safe garments for tech workers and military equipment, filter membranes that purify water on contact, or advanced EMI shielding applications which is immensely important for industry and military applications, FIBERSE M stands out by blending high-tech science with modern design and lasting durability.
TSA – What recent advancements has FIBERSE made in fibre technology (e.g., bio-based, recycled, or smart textiles)?
Satish N Chandra – We continue to push boundaries in smart and sustainable textiles. FIBERSE has become an integral part in the latest smart textile advancements. Over the past few years, we have extended our focus beyond wearable apparel into advanced textile applications. Our conductive silver yarns are now being woven into fabrics that can sense levels for medical grade monitoring, protect sensitive equipment from harmful magnetic and static fields, and even into filters that purify water by killing microbes on contact. On the recycled front, we’ve launched for example, a line of reusable masks closing the loop on PPE waste.
TSA – How does FIBERSE’s technology improve durability, comfort, or sustainability compared to traditional textiles?
Satish N Chandra – Traditional fabrics undoubtedly lose functionality over time. Antimicrobials wash out, yarns wear thin, and colours fade. FIBERSE fabrics, on the other hand break that cycle. They are engineered to deliver their promised benefits from day one until the last wash. Thanks to the permanent silver metal bonding in our yarn, the antimicrobial, thermal regulant, moisture- wicking and odour-control properties endure through over 100+ machine cycles. Fewer washes also translate into lower water and energy consumption. In short, we deliver lasting comfort and performance while shrinking each product’s environmental footprint.
TSA – What are the biggest challenges in scaling sustainable fibre production while keeping costs competitive?
Satish N Chandra – Advanced textiles naturally command a premium price. In price-sensitive markets like India, where price often trumps long-term value, convincing customers to invest in premium is a major challenge. At FIBERSE we address this by balancing affordability and innovation. Through targeted application products: by tailoring yarn formulations precisely to use-case (Eg: ESD shielding vs Activewear), we eliminate waste and drive manufacturing efficiencies. We lean on process automation, strategic partnerships, and economies of scale to bring unit costs down, while briefing customers on lifetime value, from fewer replacements to reduced spendings.
TSA – Are you partnering with fashion brands, sportswear companies, or tech firms to integrate your fibres?
Satish N Chandra – Absolutely. We’ve already partnered with several schools to supply socks made from our metalised silver yarns. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Partners praise the tangible benefits, and end users report fresher and more comfortable experiences. We will soon be on the verge of launching our own athleisure wear brand. On the tech front, we’re collaborating with leading technology developers to embed our conductive fibres into garments that monitor health vitals in real time, protect equipment and machinery from EMI/ESD, etc. With water-treatment specialists, we’re prototyping silver-fibre filtration membranes capable of microbial decontamination. Each collaboration highlights different aspects of our technology’s versatility and impact.
TSA – What’s next for FIBERSE? Any upcoming product launches or expansions into new markets?
Satish N Chandra – We are piloting next-generation biosensor fabrics that turn clothing into health-tracking platforms and continuing to enhance our EMI/ESD shielding fabrics for electronics manufacturing, defence and aerospace. Meanwhile, we’re enhancing competitive product lines by infusing our technology into existing options — boosting the antimicrobial life of hospital gowns and bedsheets, supercharging odour control in athletic gear and daily wear, etc. We are also conducting meticulous R&D to explore possibilities of integrating our technology and idea with many more advance material particles apart from silver. On the global scale, we’re also eyeing markets in Europe and North America where demand for such textiles continues to grow.
TSA – What role do you hope the company plays in shaping the future of sustainable and innovative textiles?
Satish N Chandra – Our aim is to redefine what textile means. We envision FIBERSE at the centre of health, safety and smart design, thus transforming passive garments into active and innovative solutions. By pioneering textiles that outlast and outperfor,m we aim to inspire the entire industry to elevate its standards. Ultimately, our dream is simple: every piece of fabric should not only look and feel fantastic but also play a positive role in personal and environmental well-being.
