Anticipation for DOMOTEX 2026 is likewise rising

By adjusting the frequency of the event, Deutsche Messe AG is responding to the strong demand from the flooring industry for a two-year cycle, which has been expressed for several years. Deutsche Messe AG reports an extremely positive response to this strategic decision. Stephanie Huesmann, Head of Category Management Wall, Floor, and Tools at Schlau Heimtex Einkaufs GmbH, welcomes this decision and is already looking forward to seeing everyone again in Hanover: “For many years, DOMOTEX in Hannover has been a must for us at the beginning of the year. It is where we meet many important suppliers, establish new business relationships, find out about trends and products, and get a comprehensive overview of the carpet and flooring themes of the future – all in one place! By adapting the concept of the show with a rotating focus, we expect to benefit from an even better target-group oriented value.”

ANDRITZ to supply needlepunch line for heavy nonwoven fabrics to Sioen, Belgium

International technology group ANDRITZ has received an order from Sioen Technical Felts to supply a complete needlepunch line for its production plant in Liège, Belgium. The new line will enable Sioen to produce heavy fabrics in a single step.

Sioen’s Liège plant specializes in the production of technical fabrics used mainly in industrial applications such as pipe lining (CIPP), acoustics, and filtration. The ANDRITZ equipment will allow the customer to produce fabrics of more than 3,500 gsm in a single step, using different types of fibers (recycled PET, OxPan, bicomponent,…) and finenesses. Normally two or three layers have to be needled off-line in a second step to achieve such a fabric weight.

The single-step process results in a higher quality end product by minimizing the risk of delamination, i.e. the separation of layers during use. It also increases productivity by reducing the need for fabric handling.

The ANDRITZ DF-4 needle loom, which can operate in double and single-stroke modus, gives Sioen high flexibility to process fabrics with different mechanical characteristics. Operators can easily switch modes via the remote-control touch screen. The line will be equipped with ANDRITZ’s latest fabric weight profiling technology, ProWin™, to ensure maximum weight evenness.

The start-up of the new needle punch line is scheduled for Q1 2025.

Sioen Technical Felts is part of Sioen Industries, a global leader in technical textiles and protective clothing headquartered in Ardooie, Belgium. Established in 1960 as a family venture, the company has continuously expanded its business driven by consistent innovation.

Results of the 26th ITMF global textile industry survey

The May 2024 ITMF Global Textile Industry Survey (GTIS) indicates a continued stagnation in the textile business climate, with a marginal improvement of the economic situation due to more companies deeming business “satisfactory”. On the other hand, business expectations have stagnated in positive territory for a year, reflecting optimism rather than actual improvement, as the entire supply chain suffers from a lack of orders and high costs that affect profit margins.

The balance between “good” and “poor” order intake has improved slightly, and expectations for order intake in six months are trending upwards. Since summer 2023, order backlog has fluctuated around two months on average, rising slightly from 1.9 months in March 2024 to 2.1 months in May, though it is too early to interpret this as a positive trend. The reported average capacity utilization rate increased marginally to 71% in May 2024, after declining from a peak of 80% at the end of 2021. Survey participants expect better capacity utilization in six months.

Weak demand remains the main concern since September 2022, though its importance has decreased in the last six months. Other concerns include high raw material prices, geopolitics, high energy prices, and a lack of workers and talents. Globally, 58% of respondents did not experience any order cancellations in May 2024, slightly down from 59% in March. Africa and Europe had relatively low order cancellations, while the Americas experienced more, with spinners and finishers/dyers/printers reporting the highest levels.

In May 2024, 59% of companies reported average inventory levels. North America registered the highest levels among regions, and spinners among segments. Inventories at brands and retailers remain high but are slowly decreasing. The prolonged negative business cycle often forces companies to produce at a loss or lower capacity utilization, with no significant change expected in 2024.

Intertextile Shenzhen wraps up three days of trend, innovation, and sustainability exchange amongst key asian textile players

From 5 – 7 June 2024, the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center (Futian) was the sourcing hotspot of South China’s apparel textile industry. Nearly 1,000 exhibitors from 11 countries and regions showcased various garment-related products, with major categories covering ladieswear, functional wear, and accessories. Together, Intertextile Shenzhen Apparel Fabrics and Yarn Expo Shenzhen 2024 welcomed nearly 20,000 visits from 45 countries and regions, including two buyer delegations from Malaysia and one from the European American Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Witnessing an influx of brands, manufacturers, and regional designers, the apparel fair’s Trend Forum, fringe event venues, sustainability-centric display areas, and key Asian zones and pavilions all proved high-traffic platforms.

Speaking at the show’s close, Ms Wilmet Shea, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, said: “The fair has been very effective for international and domestic suppliers to showcase their innovations to the South China market – likewise, we have had a very strong response from ASEAN-based buyers and brands seeking on-trend products in between two traditional sourcing seasons. As organisers we couldn’t be more pleased, having delivered a business-friendly trading platform for players from across the value chain, and given a stage to experts sharing insights across a range of innovative industry topics.”

At Talking Point and Textile Dialogue, Intertextile Shenzhen’s two seminar venues, topics ranged from the transformative impact of AI in the textile landscape to upcoming fashion trends for both S/S 2025-26 and A/W 2025-26, equipping buyers with key product and industry information. Across three days of insight sharing and trading, key international sourcing brands included the likes of Club Monaco, Diesel, lululemon, Ralph Lauren, Quiksilver, ZARA, and many more.

Three international buyer delegations crossed paths with exhibitors, including delegates from EA Chamber representing six countries, the Malaysia Knitting Manufacturers Association, and the Malaysian Garment Marketers Association. Meanwhile, with some travelling less than 50 kilometres and some from further afield, 12 domestic delegations visited the fair, such as China Top 10 Designers, Shenzhen Jinhui Nanyou Fashion Creative Center Visiting Group, and Guangdong Garment & Apparel Industry Association Buyer Group.

Including both individual brands and various delegates, over 250 business matching meetings with exhibitors took place across the three-day show. The buyers included 20 Shenzhen-based designers and managers, from brands such as DAQINGLIU, CHICCOMAO, DiLiUnbound, and Yishangshi. Representing the likes of Annil, Dayang, and Marisfrolg, many other domestic brand buyers visited the early summer showcase.

On the show floor, the Spring / Summer 2025-26 Trend Forum by Fabrics China gave buyers a visual anchor for future vogues. Meanwhile, the Sustainability Zone provided insights into different brands’ applications of sustainability policies, as did the debut of featured display zones Eco Trends by Intertextile x Sateri and Functional Sustainability by Intertextile x Idole.

The early summer textile platform also included the Japan Zone, with exhibitors displaying accessories, cotton and man-made fabrics for menswear, ladieswear and sportswear; the Korea Pavilion, featuring jacquard, mixed woven, and more; and the Taiwan Pavilion, with a focus on high-quality lace, embroidery and yarn. Whether sourcing or showcasing, a range of exhibitors, visitors, and speakers offered positive assessments.

Exhibitors’ feedback

“Our buttons are made with very unique materials – palm tree seeds which can only be found in Ecuador, that are durable and eco-friendly. Although more expensive than plastic buttons, the product attracts many high-end fashion brands from Europe, the US and China due to its sustainability, quality and uniqueness. We have received very positive feedback at Intertextile Shenzhen; many designers have enquired about the product. With the help of the fair, I hope more and more players in the fashion industry will choose to use sustainable materials in the future.” Mr Wilson Chiu, Managing Director, Yee Fung Hong Ltd (PRO ECUADOR co-exhibitor)

“This edition of Intertextile Shenzhen is better, as the location is different, and the number and quality of visitors have increased. At this fair, most of the visitors are manufacturers based in Shenzhen. Our main fabric here is voile, used for party dresses for example, and so many buyers have requested this item. Being part of the Korea Pavilion is better than in an individual booth. Buyers can see the Korea Pavilion, identify where we’re from and it helps generate more interest.” Mr Jay Hwang, General Manager, SK Tex Co Ltd (Korea Pavilion)

“Most of our products are fabrics produced in Japan, and we have also brought our spring and summer collections to this fair. Since we have an office in Shenzhen and many of our apparel industry clients are from South China as well, we decided to exhibit at Intertextile Shenzhen to look for new customers in the Greater Bay Area, and increase our brand exposure. Today we have connected with many Chinese buyers, and visitors from Europe and the US have also come to our booth to learn about our products.” Mr Tomokazu Matsuda, KITATI Co Ltd (Japan Pavilion)

“Our collection comes from Italy, and the quality is very well-known. We are about 200 years old and supply brands such as Chanel, Max Mara, Celine, and Gucci. In China, our presence is growing due to the rise of online brands, with buyers interested due to our association with Europe. For autumn, most of our products are wool, mohair, alpaca, while for spring we use cotton, polyester, and more. At Intertextile Shenzhen, we are showing S/S and A/W fabrics together, and buyers have been looking for both.” Mr Dongbo Han, Dongyu Chengxin International Fashion Fabric (Lanificio Paoletti agent)

Visitors’ comments

“At this fair, our association members want to communicate with yarn, fabric, accessories and other exhibitors, keep up to date with the latest industry developments, and discover new products and advanced technologies. We made good progress and found many interested potential partners, and we will follow up with them after we return. This year’s visa-free entry policy is very conducive to business exchange between Malaysia and China, making it easier to come here, and greatly enhancing sourcing efficiency.”

Mr Kuan Chee Tan, President, Malaysia Knitting Manufacturers Association

“Perhaps 70% of our customers are online brands with thousands of stock keeping units, and we help them procure fabrics and finished garments, store them, and handle logistics. We develop systems software for e-commerce platforms such as Shopify, AliExpress, and Amazon. Some of our clients are very interested in new fashion industry trends, and products such as eco-friendly, recycled fabrics, and nature-friendly accessories. I’m exploring jacquard for airline uniforms, Italian booths for R&D and trends, and bridal wear. As an EACham member, this is probably one of the best shows I’ve been to but I need to explore more.”

Mr Dileep Kumar, Director, ExPlus Logistics (Member of European-American Chamber of Commerce & Industry)

Speakers’ insights

“The presentation today was about our self-developed innovative functional fibre yarns that are super strong and tough. Afterwards, attendees can visit our booth to exchange thoughts and learn more about the relevant technologies, therefore holding concurrent seminars is useful. At this fair, there are more of our target buyers who have consulted with us, and many manufacturers are now looking for such functional materials. We also noticed buyers from Europe and the US are more interested in sustainable fibres.”

Mr Kang Zhang, Technical Manager, Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Limited (Speaker at Bioinspired Super Fibre with High Strength, Toughness and Damping Performance seminar)

“My key point was the use of AI technology for high-speed recognition of materials, colour, garment type, and construction, which are important elements for textile recycling. I also promoted technology to draw fibres from existing garments, and ensure they are as long as possible, in order to recycle garments to yarns. The industry audience here was informed, drawing links between what I said and their situations. This was a good platform to share that recycling technology already exists and it’s time to step up in this area.”

Mr Raymond Chiu, Senior Research Manager, The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (Speaker at Threads of Innovation: Textile x AI Exploration and Prospect seminar)

Held concurrently with Yarn Expo Shenzhen and PH Value, Intertextile Shenzhen Apparel Fabrics is organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd; Messe Frankfurt (Shenzhen) Co Ltd; the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT; and the China Textile Information Center.

Other upcoming shows:

Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Autumn Edition / Yarn Expo Autumn 27 – 29 August 2024, Shanghai.

Yarn Expo Shenzhen 2024 concludes, ‘fostering connections and driving business opportunities’ between traditional sourcing seasons

Yarn Expo Shenzhen drew its curtains on 7 June 2024, marking the close of South China’s first summer sourcing platform this year. Held concurrently with Intertextile Shenzhen Apparel Fabrics and PH Value, the three-day fair welcomed nearly 20,000 visits from 45 countries and regions. Spanning 1,600 sqm of exhibition space at Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center (Futian), the fair showcased over 70 exhibitors across seven prominent zones, including Fancy Yarn, Cashmere Yarn, Wool Yarn, Linen Yarn, Cotton Yarn, Chemical Fibre, and Overseas Yarn. Across the booths and nearly 20 fringe events, innovation and sustainability were strong points of discussion.

“I am delighted to reflect on this successful edition of Yarn Expo Shenzhen, which serves as a good example of how Messe Frankfurt continuously enhances the fairgoer experience, listens to the needs of the industry, and adapts to the ever-changing landscape,” said Ms Wilmet Shea, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd. “We made a strategic decision to move the fair to June to give exhibitors a fresh opportunity between spring and autumn sourcing seasons. The relocation to Shenzhen’s CBD also offered an ideal setting for fostering connections and driving business opportunities. These moves, along with the many eco-friendly products on display, allowed us to provide a dynamic platform that empowered buyers to stay ahead of the curve.”

Situated in the heart of Shenzhen, one of China’s leading textile hubs, the fair enabled industry players to tap into the vibrant energy of the yarn and fibre ecosystem. Across three halls, the integrated fairs allowed buyers to source along the entire value chain, from fibres, all the way upstream to quality knitwear, apparel fabrics, and garments.

Yarn Expo Shenzhen effectively presented the most current industry trends, with a specific focus on the increasing desire for sustainable and innovative products. The New Green Fibre Materials zone provided a dedicated platform to sustainable exhibitors, while notable seminars from the New Fibre New World – Textile Materials Innovation Forum included The Green Innovation of Ternura® and Interpretion of China Fibres Fashion Trends 2024/2025 – Outdoor Sports. In addition, some of the most up-to-date products were presented at the Tongkun – China Fibre Fashion Trends Display Zone.

Exhibitors’ feedback

“We participated at the previous edition of Yarn Expo Shenzhen as a visitor and decided to exhibit at this one to see how the buyers respond. We have received a lot of positive feedback so far. Shenzhen has a vibrant knitting market that has captured our attention as we seek to expand our presence in the southern region. Our 20-carded knitting yarn is the most popular item here in the Guangdong market, as we got a lot of orders from sweater manufacturers.” Mr Mohsin Ghoniya, Textile Division, Global Tex, India

“In the South China market, particularly in Foshan and Dongguan, there is an emphasis on the manufacturing of underwear. Our polyester products can be blended with viscose, modal and Tencel, resulting in different functional fibre and yarns, such as water absorption, quick-drying and warmth retention. These features have garnered significant interest from our customers, as these materials are highly suitable for lingerie. We decided to join this fair after we learnt that it is moving to Futian, because it’s also the home of a major underwear fair. We thought it would be very helpful to promote our products.” Ms Elaine Gu, Vice General Manager, Shanghai Mingmao Industrial, China

“Our company mainly focuses on vortex spinning yarn, and we currently have the world’s third largest production capacity, and domestically we are also the benchmark enterprise. This is our fourth time participating at Yarn Expo, and I can feel that the traffic here in Futian is higher than in the previous location. In terms of markets, South China is probably stronger in denim and sweaters, therefore buyers are paying more attention to some of our signature products such as the Lycra series and core spun yarns.” Ms Wu Liwei, Department of Foreign Trade, Jingyi Group, China

Buyers’ comments “I’m looking for products along the value chain specific to the Greater Bay Area, including fibre, yarn, and fabric. We produce biodegradable material, which is more widely acceptable to international companies. We are looking for partners who show similar interest in green concepts, who can possibly invest resources into co-development. The Display Zone is an eye-opening innovation centre to let visitors know what’s trending, and Yarn Expo Shenzhen is a great platform to get to know many potential partners and use it to select several candidates to pursue collaborations with later.” Ms Li Xuan, Marketing and Sales Head, Shanghai Tong-Jie-Liang Biomaterial, China

“I am mainly looking for new types of fibres, and I believe that Guangdong manufacturers are more notable for this. Nowadays the demand for high-performance, eco-friendly and innovative fibres is getting higher and higher. When we talk about breakthroughs, one of the keys is to start from the raw material, because there are more technological elements to it, including new yarns and fibres. Therefore if we are development-oriented, we should focus on the latest progress of raw materials, which is also the reason I came to this fair.” Mr Xie Yongxian, Sales Manager, Foshan Anxin Fiber Technology Co Ltd, China

Yarn Expo Shenzhen 2024 was held concurrently with Intertextile Shenzhen Apparel Fabrics and PH Value, together providing a comprehensive trading platform for the entire textile value chain.

Yarn Expo Shenzhen is organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd; the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT; China Cotton Textile Association; and China Chemical Fibers Association. For more details on the upcoming fair, please visit www.yarnexpo-shenzhen.com.
